Hello! We’re year 4! We love learning and having discussion about BIG questions. We will be learning lots this half term!

Our focus in Maths this half term is place value. Year 3 will be learning about place value of 3 digit numbers and ordering and comparing these numbers. Year 4 will be looking at place value of 4 digit numbers, rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 and reading Roman numerals to 100.
In English we will be using the Pixar film ‘Inside Out’ to discuss feelings and produce some fantastic writing. We will be writing character descriptions and recounts using first person, conjunctions and adverbs of time.
This half term in Science we will be learning about sound. We will look at how sounds are made and what can affect the volume and pitch of a sound. We will be doing practical experiments to support our learning and to prove or disprove our own theories about how sound behaves in different environments.
Your child will receive a reading book and a book hut book to take home. We ask that the children try to read at least 3 times a week. If children do this they will receive a certificate and if they read 5 times a week they will receive a prize. Reading diaries will be checked weekly to ensure your child is changing their book regularly and to assess their reading level. Please ensure your child brings their reading diary and book to school daily.
Our PE days this half term are Tuesdays and Fridays. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in on these days. They can bring it in and leave it in school if they wish. They will take it home to be washed at half term.

Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school every day labelled with their name. Your child can bring in a healthy snack for morning break time.
Soon, your child will be bringing home a homework book. In the homework book they will have a spelling list and will choose 10 spellings each week to practice at home. There will also be some home learning ideas linked to their History or Geography topic. The books will be checked weekly and children will be given stickers for completing homework tasks.
