Reading at Home

We take reading very seriously in Year 5. Each day, we do a ‘Big Read’ lesson, focussing in depth on a book, and answering questions around it. In these lessons, all children are given the opportunity to read aloud, and answer questions. We also have a class reader, where we read for enjoyment.

Children will also bring a reading book home from school, as well as a free choice book from ‘The Book Hut’. Children are expected to read at home each night with an adult. When a child reads at home, they will receive a raffle ticket, and be entered into a weekly prize draw.

Homework

Children will bring home their times tables booklets, and their Read, Write Inc Spelling Logs. These should be used as a guide, to practise what the children have been working on in class.

PE

We currently swim every Wednesday afternoon. Due to the timings of this slot, we may be slightly late back to school.

Swimming kit is:

Boys- Swim shorts, not below the knee.

Girls- Swimming costume

All children- Swim hat, towel and a large bag to store wet clothes in.

Goggles should not be worn, unless advised by the swimming teacher.

Snacks & Water Bottles

Children should bring their own water bottle into school each day. Due to the current situation, these must be taken home and disposed of/cleaned each day.

We also invite children to bring a healthy snack to eat at play time, for example, a cereal bar or a piece of fruit.
